COVID-19 UPDATES

02/06/2020

Dear Parents,

We hope you are keeping safe and well.

As certain areas of Lockdown begin to ease, and with some children going back to school this week, we thought it was a good time to send an update about classes. As it stands, we have not been given the go ahead to re-open yet, but I have been advised that the Community Centre will likely open in July. The provisional start date for the earliest classes could resume is Monday 6th July. Whilst this won’t be confirmed until we have further Government information, this is the date we are currently working towards re-opening the school (in some capacity).

Government guidelines will dictate how we (and the Community Centre) go about this, but there will be a need for increased cleaning, increased hand-washing, social distancing and new protocols regarding drop offs and pick-ups (most likely a one-way entry/exit system at the hall). Before opening, we will of course review all guidelines, carry out a full risk assessment and ensure we are ready to operate in a safe manner.

I appreciate some of you may feel this is too early to re-open, or have concerns, so I would appreciate if you could reply to this message with any queries (if you have them) and also answer the following questions.

  1. Would you be happy for classes to start back the week commencing 6th July? (Or would you prefer them to start back in September?)

  1. Would you like any ad hoc classes over the Summer holidays? (Not weekly lessons, but perhaps 2 or 3 classes over the Summer break, or some one-off workshops etc).

This feedback will allow us to make decisions regarding re-opening and also see if we need to make any changes to our timetable in order to open and operate safely. As the hall is so big, most classes will be unaffected, but some classes may need to be split, or shortened slightly to allow for adequate social distancing. The safety of our pupils is our number one priority, so we will only open up when it is safe to do so.

We hope you have managed to use the music we previously sent out to keep dancing a bit over our extended break. This week we will be sending out pre-recorded class videos to all pupils. These will not be as comprehensive as a full live/in person class, but we hope they are useful and keep everyone entertained! These class videos are free of charge, but please note that if you choose to participate, it is at your own risk. We also kindly ask that they are not shared and are only used by HSD pupils.

To ensure you keep receiving these videos and any further updates, please make sure you have paid this Term’s ‘Holding Fee’ (outlined in our last correspondence). If for any reason you didn’t receive the previous letter (or music), please let me know. If have already paid the fee, a huge thank you…we really appreciate it!

Also, please make sure you have made a note of next year’s show dates (posted below and also sent in the previous letter):

HSD Show Dates - 2021

*Sunday 28th March 2021 – Dress Rehearsal at HCC

*Wednesday 7th April 2021 - Dress Rehearsal at Desborough Theatre

*Thursday 8th April 2021 - Dress Rehearsal Desborough Theatre

*Friday 9th April 2021 - Show 7.30pm

*Saturday 10th April 2021 - Show 7.30pm

*Sunday 11th April 2021 - Show 2.30pm & 7.30pm

We really have missed classes and seeing everyone, and hope we can open up as soon as safely possible. We want everyone to feel safe returning to classes, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries, or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you all soon.

Take care and stay safe.

Best Wishes,

Vicky

05/04/2020

Dear Parents,

We hope you are all well and staying safe at this difficult time.

The past few weeks have been challenging for everyone and we are all now adjusting to a new routine. Whilst we were extremely sad to close, we know now that it was the right thing to do; given how events progressed over the past few weeks. Please be reassured, that this closure is only temporary and we will be back up and running as soon as we can. We are planning to follow the lead of the mainstream schools and will return to classes once they reopen. We initially believed this to be shortly after the Easter holidays, but it is now looking like it will be later in the term; with some Government advice stating that they can’t guarantee schools will open again before the Summer break.

Due to the uncertainty and how long schools might be closed, we have decided not to ask for the full Term’s fees, but instead a “holding fee” that will go towards any classes which run during the Summer Term. If we do not return before the Summer, this amount will be adjusted towards the Autumn Term fees. We will also adjust the next full term's fees to account for the 2 weeks that we had to close.

The fee will be £20 per child, with each additional class charged at £5 (for example, those who do both Ballet and Tap & Modern will pay £25). Please ensure this fee is paid by Sunday 26th April to guarantee your child a place in class (once we start up again) and to keep receiving any music and videos that we may send out over the next few months. If you need the school bank details, please contact us.

We are aware this is a tough time for everyone, so please contact us if you have any concerns regarding payment of this fee and we will try to help, where possible. In an ideal world, we wouldn’t ask for any money upfront, but we want to make sure that we are ready to go, as and when we get the OK to start classes again. We are a small business (self-employed) with many overheads that continue even when we closed. For this reason, we have decided that a one-off fee is the most suitable option, and will allow us to start back as soon as we can. We Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

On a more cheerful note, we will begin rehearsing for our Easter 2021 show in September, so please make a note of the dates below. We have booked the Desborough Theatre in Maidenhead for the following dates:

Sunday 28th March 2021 – Dress Rehearsal at HCC

Wednesday 7th April 2021 - Dress Rehearsal at Desborough Theatre
Thursday 8th April 2021 - Dress Rehearsal Desborough Theatre

Friday 9th April 2021 - Show 7.30pm
Saturday 10th April 2021 - Show 7.30pm
Sunday 11th April 2021 - Show 2.30pm & 7.30pm

We know that some of you will be unfamiliar with our shows, so we will send further information out later in the year. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Please note: pupils are needed for all performances, but younger dancers can usually leave during the intervals, and aren’t needed for the full day during rehearsals.

Along with this message, we have sent out some exam and class music to all pupils, along with some activity packs for our younger dancers. This has been sent via a WeTransfer link, where you will be able to download the music to your computer or laptop (on on a phone via the WeTransfer app). The link will expire after 7 days, so please make sure you download it in time. We will be in touch again after the Easter break, when we are hoping to send out some pre-recorded class videos. In terms of online classes, we can thoroughly recommend the ‘The Ballet Coach’ who runs free classes on YouTube, FB and Instagram. For further class information and updates, please follow our school Facebook page. If you have any questions or queries, please get in touch.

Thank you again for all your support and understanding during this uncertain time. We really miss seeing everyone at classes and cannot wait until we are back!

Take care, stay safe and we'll see you all soon!

Best Wishes,

Vicky

19/03/2020

Dear Parents,

We are extremely sad to announce that after today's classes (Thursday 19th March) we will be temporarily closed until further notice. We have decided to fall in line with the imminent school closures and will return to classes once schools reopen. We are absolutely gutted to have to close, but already excited to get back to classes, as and when we can!

Our current plan is to work as if we are opening after the Easter beak and will be asking for the Summer Term fees towards the end of April (as normal), in the hope that we'll be back. I will adjust next term's fees to account for the next 2 weeks we are closed. Should we have to stay closed for an extended period of time, then I will either reimburse the Summer term fees, or re-adjust them towards the Autumn term. We are aware this is going to be a tough time for everyone, so please contact us if you have any concerns regarding payment of fees and we will try to help, where possible.

We will be in touch over the next few weeks with our provisional term dates and further information. We will also be sending out music/notes to our Exam classes and finding some resources to keep everyone dancing! We are hoping to get back to normal as soon as possible, but it's hard, without knowing how long this will all take to pass.

Finally, in what has been a particularly stressful week, we want to thank everyone for their support, understanding and kind comments. From our littlest dancers through to our lovely adult students; and all the parents/guardians, you have all been wonderful and have made this difficult time so much easier. Thank you once again, please continue to support us (and other local businesses) if you can.

We know everyone will have lots of questions and queries, so please do get in touch if you need any further information. Thank you again for all your support and understanding. Take care, stay safe and we'll see you all soon!

Best Wishes,

Vicky
